The third revision of ISO 2859-1 was published in January 2026. While the sampling plans themselves remain unchanged, there are several updates worth noting:
• The table numbering has been revised, which may require updates to internal procedures, work instructions, and other referenced documentation.
• New informative annexes have been added. In particular, Annex F provides useful background on the relationship between lot size and sample size, explaining that this relationship in the original MIL-STD-105 sampling tables was not derived from a theoretical foundation but was considered intuitive by the original developers.

A major focus of this edition is the discussion of skip-lot sampling plans.
Please be reminded that organizations considering the use of skip-lot sampling should be aware of the associated limitations, especially in highly regulated industries such as medical devices. Detailed guidance on skip-lot sampling and its restrictions can be found in ISO 2859-3:2005, particularly in Clauses 4.1, 5.2.1, and 9.1.
